English version - essentials

Would you like to get married in West Lofoten?

Brudepar i hvite. Foto.
You can choose one of our three churches: Flakstad, Reine and Moskenes. And we can conduct the ceremony in English.

Please take contact with us as soon as possible and before you make other arrangments. The first step is: Fill in our Enrollment to Church Wedding - form, so we have your details and can start planning immediately. Here is the form, in English.

When the date for your marriage is confirmed with us, you can submit your papers to the Norwegian National Registry.

National Registry (Skatteetaten/Folkeregisteret) is responsible for the legal examination of the conditions for marriage. Bride, groom and witnesses complete and  sign each their forms. National Register will subsequently  issue a Certificate of no Impediment to Marriage, valid for 4 months. Make sure the certificate  is sent directly to our office.

Click here for the English page of the National Registry.

Alternatively, you can get the marriage arranged with your local authorities and provide us with a Marriage Certificate. We will then conduct the church ceremony.

Outdoor marriage is not necessarily part of a Norwegian tradition and there are good reasons for that:
- Weather is impossible to rely on, even in the summer
- We have few designated places where the ceremony is possible:

FLAKSTAD:

  • Skagsanden beach

  • Nappskaret

  • Nesland

MOSKENES:

  • Vindstad

  • Sørvågen lake

- You will have to arrange all facilities yourself: sound, chairs, alter, music.

An outdoors ceremony is however possible and easier to organize if you have a minimalistic approach and few guests.

Keep in mind you need two witnesses. Our organist and verger can be your witnesses in the church, but they will not be present at an outdoors wedding.

Fees: You may be charged for a fee for the church ceremony, please confirm with the local church office.
